About Me

Hello! I'm etheryal (pronounced ethereal), a 20-year-old female content creator from East Asia. I also publish under Asteria Hwang (not my real name) because it looks way better on a book than etheryal does. I'm a college sophomore majoring in computer science with an interest in game development (I stream casual gaming on Twitch). Though I only create content in English, I also speak Chinese and Korean semi-fluently. When I'm not writing or drawing, I also enjoy gaming and watching shows. Some series I'm a fan of are Bungou Stray Dogs, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, Jujutsu Kaisen and Link Click.

Those stories have inspired me a lot, but if I'm being honest, I've been interested in art and writing ever since I was old enough to put words on paper. Unfortunately, neither was my forte back then, but I loved the feeling of being able to create something with my imagination and my own two hands. Back in my school days, I was the kind of student who would daydream during class, playing countless scenes of my characters in my head that I would later end up scribbling down. Most of them didn't turn into anything, but at some point, I decided that I didn't want to keep these stories to myself anymore. So that's when I started making bigger plans.

See, I've never really been the kind to like attention — the pressure gets to my head when I post my work and I get worried that people won't like it. But while my primary goal is ultimately to give my future self things to look back at fondly, I'm always happy when people tell me that they like what I've made. It took me quite a long time to get the courage to share my work. Even now, I still have second thoughts sometimes. But in early 2025, one thing led to another and I ended up publishing my first book. If you'd like to know more about what happened, you can check it out here. That being said, all of my writing has only gone through one full draft unlike the countless revisions that I know some authors go through, so I can't promise they're masterpieces: They're all passion projects I never intended to show anyone, let alone make money from.

It was around the time of my first novel's publication that I started posting my art as well. Despite taking painting lessons when I was a kid, the manhwa style I have and everything I know about digital art was self-taught (with the help of an occasional YouTube video). I took a while to figure out how to use my tablet so up until 2020, I liked to draw on paper. In fact, I'd say that I only really started doing digital art a bit more consistently in 2023, which was two years before the opening of my art Instagram account. I'm quite proud of how far I've gotten, but I also acknowledge that I have a long way to go until I'm truly satisfied with my work. I'm striving towards the day I will be able to look back and say that I've truly accomplished everything I wanted.

15-year-old me was an ambitious girl who had a whole story that she wanted to share, but she was too afraid to take the first step. Unfortunately, that story has been dropped, but in it's place, I've come up with many new ones. Many of the projects are ambitious and they sometimes feel out of my reach. However, as I see each one progress a little further (and some to completion), I'm motivated to keep going. All the support I've received has played a great part in that too! So to end off, if somewhere out there, there's somebody like me who has too many stories and too little confidence, I hope this inspires you to keep going. I never believed that I could make it this far and I still have a long way to go. But maybe the quotes that hung on the walls of my school were right: Everything is possible if you're willing to work for it. So why stop now?
